Photopolymer-contaminated wastewater can contain a changing mixture of water-soluble monomers, oligomers, photoinitiator- related species, additives, pigments, suspended polymer particles and transformation products. A single bulk metric therefore cannot establish either composition or treatment success. This review develops an analytical architecture that separates target analysis, suspect screening, non-target high-resolution mass spectrometry, bulk organic indicators and particle measurements. The required method depends on the decision: controlling a known formulation component, detecting unexpected chemistry, demonstrating process removal, or identifying a treatment by-product. Sample preservation, filtration, dissolved-versus-particulate partitioning and matrix effects are treated as part of the measurand. Treatment verification is defined by paired influent/effluent sampling, mass-flow or concentration-normalized comparisons, blanks, recovery controls and explicit detection limits; disappearance of a parent peak is not accepted as proof of mineralisation or reduced hazard. The central conclusion is that analytical monitoring must follow the contaminant mixture through treatment rather than merely confirm that one chosen marker declined.
